After the breakaway circuit’s 2024 season was concluded in October, the LIV Golf pros are traveling around the world either for fun or to play some more golf. Cameron Smith is busy with Australian golf, but pros like Patrick Reed, Eugenio Chacarra, Matt Jones, and others can be found on the Asian Tour’s International Series. The partnership between LIV Golf and the Asian Tour is going three years strong, with nine events organized in the 2024 season for the series.

For the eighth event of the International Series, the 132 players field traveled to the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling, Deep Bay Waters, for the LINK Hong Kong Open. As has been the case for every other event in the series, the Hong Kong Open also has a prize purse of $2 million. Out of this, the winner will take home a check of $360,000, whereas the runner-up will get $260,000.

Moreover, there would be 10.12372 Official World Golf Rankings up for grabs too, and this definitely helps the LIV Golf pros who cannot collect any OWGR points on the breakaway circuit. Other than this, the 69 golfers (after the cut) in the field also have a chance to rank better on the International Series Ranking and get the LIV Golf 2025 card after winning it or get inside the second round of LIV Golf Promotions, where three LIV Golf will be given.

Patrick Reed may take the LINK Hong Kong Open’s trophy

The 1-time Masters winner’s last victory was at the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open. After joining LIV Golf in 2022, Patrick Reed has not tasted another victory in his career. But at the Hong Kong Golf Club, his nearly four-year-long winless drought may break as he carded the best round of his career at the Hong Kong Open to become the clubhouse leader.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Patrick Reed finally break his winless streak at the Hong Kong Open and silence his critics?

Have an interesting take?

On the third round of the event, Reed opened with five consecutive birdies and ended the round with another four back-to-back on the back nine. He actually made 11 birdies in the rounds and shot 11 under 59. However, as lift, clean, and place were in effect, Reed’s round would be recognized as a record on the Asian Tour. Nonetheless, the round made him the leader with 3 strokes ahead of Thai pro-Nitithorn Thippong and Indian golfer Rashid Khan.

Meanwhile, defending champion Ben Campbell was solo fourth after the third round with 14 under. As the race for the Hong Kong Open comes close, Reed looks like the best pro in form and may successfully win his first event in nearly four years. He would get the $360,000 winner’s and a trophy to call his.
