The second edition of the Grant Thornton Invitational will tee off this Friday at the Tiburon Golf Club. Lydia Ko and Jason Day will pair up once again to defend their title. The unique mixed-gender event brings a lot of eyeballs because of its rarity. But will Mother Nature jeopardize that plan?
It seems not. The opening round will be played under cloudy weather. However, there is only a 13% chance of rain, and humidity can reach up to 71%. The maximum and minimum temperatures will swing between 77F and 60F. Expect a northeast wind at 10 to 20 MPH.
The second round of the Grant Thornton Invitational, which follows an alternate shots format, will be played under an overcast sky. The maximum temperature increases to 79F, and the minimum goes up to 66F. The relative humidity index points to 77%. A similar northeast wind is expected to blow at 15 to 20MPH. So, players will have to make some adjustments throughout the day. There is little chance of rain (9%).

Expect a similar weather on Sunday as well. In the modified four-ball, players must adjust to the windspeed (NE 15MPH). The chances of rain increase to 22%. At the same time, the maximum and minimum temperatures will hover between 81F and 66F, per the Weather.com. As of now, there is no chance of a Monday finish, which should bring relief to fans.
Storylines to follow at the Grant Thornton Invitational
In retrospect, Ko’s victory at the Tiburon Golf Club was a precursor to the fairytale season she had. The Kiwi International is now a Hall of Famer, which made her partner, Jason Day proud and inspired. The Aussie International heaped praise on Ko in the pre-tournament press conference.

On the other hand, all eyes will be on Lexi Thompson as this will be the last tournament in her last full season. The CME Group Tour Championship’s final round didn’t go as planned for the 2014 Kraft Nabisco champion. Her playing mate, Rickie Fowler, wants to send her off with silverware. It remains to be seen if the duo can pull off a victory at the Grant Thornton Invitational.

While these four are familiar faces, this time, Nelly Korda will have a new partner. Daniel Berger will join forces with world no.1 as Korda’s former partner Tony Finau withdrew. It wasn’t because of LIV Golf, the PGA Tour pro clarified.
Nevertheless, Korda and Berger make for an interesting pair. Korda has been on a historic run, and Berger, returned to the Tour after a 19-month hiatus early this year. The four-time PGA Tour winner is trending in the right direction. Partnering with the LPGA’s world no.1 might just be the good luck charm he needs. The Grant Thornton Invitational will be live on Golf Channel from 1 to 4 PM on Friday. So, will you be tuning in?
