The much-awaited 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational is already underway. This is the second time that the LPGA Tour players will be partnering with the PGA Tour players for a team event at the Tiburon Golf Club. Last year, it was Jason Day and Lydia Ko’s team that defeated Brooke Henderson paired with Corey Conners by just one stroke and clinched the trophy.

The first round is already over, and currently, Patty Tavatanakit and Jake Knapp have managed to score an exceptional round of 14-under 58 in the scramble on Friday and taken the lead. They are just one stroke ahead of two other teams. If they continue with their momentum, this year they surely will take home the trophy. But the question is what will they get apart from it?

Just like last year, the 2024 Grant Thornton is offering a $4 million purse, and the winning team will be taking home the biggest portion of the share, which is a whopping $1 million. Each of the players will be getting $50,000. On the other hand, the runner-up and the second runner-up teams will be entitled to $560,000 and $330,000, respectively, to be divided equally between the two members.

The Grant Thornton Invitational is already a rather unique format, which makes it special. But it will be an even more significant one for Lexi Thompson and Rickie Fowler.

Lexi Thompson is teeing off one last time before she retires as a full-time pro golfer

The news of the American professional golfer’s retirement has stunned fans, but after more than a decade on the tour, she feels it’s time for a change. She explained that she wants to shift her focus from her professional career to her personal life and begin settling down. Lexi Thompson announced her retirement plans mid-way through the 2024 season, and as the year draws to a close, the Grant Thornton Invitational will mark her final event on the course. Last year, the team finished with a T6 and is hoping to make redemption this year. But for that, they need to buckle up. Lexi Thompson and Rickie Fowler are currently at the T8 on the leaderboard tied with two other pairs, five strokes behind the leaders. Now the question is will they be able to gear up?

Even if not, Thompson sure has left her fans with a little ray of hope, ensuring that she will return to the courses. At the pre-tournament press conference, when they were in discussion with the team, she said,  She said, “It’s just great to be back here this week. I did say just from a full-time schedule. Just going to take that time for myself, spend it with my family and friends, and just decompress and make sure that if or when I do decide to play, that I’m ready and I’m in a good mind space.” Well, the fans are hoping that she withdraws her plans, but only the 2025 season will tell what it has in store for the player.
