Leading a team is a big responsibility and not everyone can do that. As the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup captain, Zach Johnson has a huge responsibility to lead 12 of America’s finest golfers. However, can he win the competition with his unique trait that his wife believes is his best quality?

On his first press meet as the Ryder Cup captain, Johnson was able to make everyone impress with his humor sense. The golfer seemed nonchalant as he answered the most vital question at the press meet.

As the first-time captain of the Ryder Cup, anybody would be scared in their first meeting with the press. However, Johnson seemed rather relaxed when he answered the questions of the reporters. That is why when one of the reporters asked him the best trait that he brings to the team, Zach used his humor sense to answer the question.

“My wife would say my dimples,” said the Team USA captain of the 2023 Ryder Cup.

The 48-year-old American golfer had turned pro in 1998. Although he has won only 16 championship titles throughout his career, two of them are major championships. While Johnson won the Masters Tournament in 2007, he won the Open Championship in 2015.

Johnson has been part of five Ryder Cups so far. However, his team had only won once in 2016; Zach went 2-1 in his three matches against Team Europe. Although his winning rate in the Ryder Cup is not low, Zach brings adds a lot of experience to the competition. 

Team USA’s history at the Ryder Cup

Team USA had hosted the 2021 Ryder Cup by crushing Team Europe with 19 points against their 9. Steve Stricker had led the team to victory last year.

The Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, Italy, would host the 2023 edition of the competition. Although Team USA has won 27 Ryder Cup titles against Team Europe’s 14, they have never won it on European soil. Since the competition is taking place in Italy, Zach has to work twice as hard to win their first-ever Ryder Cup on European soil.
