The 2023 Ascension Charity Classic Championship looks like it is going to be a thrilling event, bringing together some of the highly-regarded names in golf. It is a part of the PGA Tour Champions, the senior version of the PGA Tour. The proceeds of the tournament are meant to be contributed to charity.

The tournament will feature 78 players contesting in the 54-hole course over a three-day period, The defending champion of the tournament, who currently holds the sixth position in the Schwab Cup standings, Padraig Harrington will not be appearing in this year’s edition. The former champion of the Ascension Charity Classic (2021), David Toms will return this year. However, the defending champion Padraig Harrington is currently playing in the Horizon Irish Open and will not be playing in the Ascension Charity Classic. Stephen Ames

Ames currently stands at the second position in the Schwab Cup standings. He has bagged four PGA Tour victories during his career. Perhaps his career’s most important moment was when he defeated Tiger Woods in the first round of the 2006 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Ames holds an overall win count of 17 in his golf career so far. He has won six tournaments in the PGA Tour Champions alone. Ames is the third Canadian to secure a win on this tour.

Bernhard Langer:

Langer has an impressive career on the PGA Tour Champions, where he has won 46 titles. He has the most wins in the PGA Tour Champions. He stands at the third position on the Schwab Cup leaderboard. The German golfer has a whopping 122 total professional wins, and among them are two wins at the Masters Championship in the years 1985 and 1993. He holds the second position in the list of golfers with the highest European Tour wins. 

David Toms:

With 13 PGA Tour victories to his name, David Toms stands fourth in the Schwab Cup leaderboard. His major success came in 2001 when he clinched the PGA Championship title. Known for his steady ball-striking skills, Toms holds 22 professional wins in his golf career.

Ernie Els:

Ernie Els, often referred to as “The Big Easy,” is a Hall of Fame golfer with 19 PGA Tour titles. He has won four Major Championships, including two U.S. Opens and two Open Championships. Els is celebrated for his powerful and graceful swing, and he has 75 professional wins to his name. He holds 28 European Tour wins and has the seventh position in the all-time list. 

Alex Cejka:

Alex Cejka’s PGA Tour career culminated in a memorable victory at the 2021 Valero Texas Open, marking his first PGA Tour win. He has won four European Tour championships, and 3 European Senior Tour Championships. Cejka has 18 professional wins spread across the various tours. Cejka holds the 9th position in the Schwab Cup standings.

How much is the prize money for the Ascension Charity Classic Championship?

The Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri is a course with 54 holes. It will host 78 professionals from the PGA TOUR Champions, contesting for the title. The players will contend for a $2 million purse. The prize money has not changed from the previous year’s value. The winner will take home a sum of $300,000, and the runner-up will take $176,000. How to watch the Ascension Charity Classic Championship?

On Friday, September 8, the tournament will be broadcast on the Golf Channel from 12 PM to 3 PM. On Saturday and Sunday, the tournament will be broadcast from 4 PM to 6 PM. The three-day tournament will follow the Missouri time zone which is the Central Daylight Time, CDT.
