The upcoming event will be the first ‘elevated’ event of the season out of the 13 tournaments in the 2022-23 PGA Tour season. Every golfer who finished in the top 20 of the Player Impact Program in 2022 is required to play in at least 12 of them.
The upcoming event will begin a new era in the PGA Tour, with increased prize money in the elevated tournaments. The revolutionary 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions will offer a $15 million purse compared to last year’s $8 million, while the remaining elevated events will hand out between $20 million and $25 million each.

When and how to watch the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions
The tournament will commence on January 5th and end on the 8th of January at Kapalua Plantation Golf Course in Maui, Hawaii. The 39 players with a win at last season’s PGA Tour will compete for the $15 million prize money, with the winner bagging home $2.7 million.
The coverage for the event will be shared among NBC and Golf Channel. Fans can watch the first two rounds and late coverage on the weekend at Golf Channel, while the third and final round will be exclusively covered by NBC. The 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, will be aired from 6-10 p.m. eastern time on both Thursday and Friday on the Golf Channel.
Whereas the final two rounds on the Weekend will commence a couple of hours early at 4-6 p.m.E.T. on NBC and Golf Channel. Apart from the televised broadcasters, fans can also watch the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions online with PGA Tour Live at ESPN+.

The exclusive coverage of the event at PGA Tour Live will begin at 2:15 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, 2:30 p.m. ET on Friday, and 12:45 p.m. ET on Saturday and Sunday. Fans can stream the telecasts via ESPN+ or Peacock. With some of the best talents taking the field at Kapalua, let’s take a deeper look at who all are competing for the $2.7 million winner’s purse.
Who is competing at this year’s Tournament of Champions?
The eligibility for the tournament requires a player to have at least a single win in the previous season, including the players who cracked their way into the FedEx top 30 in 2022. The field in Maui will be comprised of 39 players, among whom 17 players are currently in the World’s top 20 ranked golfers.
Last year’s Major winners; Scottie Scheffler, Will Zalatoris, and Justin Thomas are set to play in the PGA Tour’s first event of 2023. Nonetheless, defending champion and the winner of the 2022 Open Championship, Cameron Smith will not be part of the event deeming his move to LIV Golf.

Apart from the trio, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Tom Kim, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Sungjae Im, and Tony Finau are among the top talents seeking a win at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. The 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the year Cameron Young will also be competing in Hawaii.
Though the best players of the PGA Tour are set to leave it all in the course, World number one Rory McIlroy will skip the tournament. The Northern Irish has decided to skip the first Elevated event of the season. Nonetheless, with other greats looking for the big prize, the fans are in for a treat.
