The first major tournament of the year came to a thrilling end on Sunday, with Jon Rahm clinching his first-ever green jacket at Augusta. Now, golf fans are gearing up for another exciting edition of the RBC Heritage event at Harbour Town, South Carolina.

The Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island has hosted the RBC Heritage event since the latter’s first edition in 1969. It has become a staple for the golfing world to focus on this PGA Tour event in the week following the Masters.

2023 RBC Heritage’s power rankings

The PGA Tour’s stop at the Hilton Head is known as a “decompression week” after the Masters. However, fans can expect to witness a highly competitive field at the 55th edition of the RBC Heritage. Per the PGA Tour’s power rankings, here are the top 5 contenders to look for.

English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick is at number 5 in the power rankings. The 28-year-old had a good outing at the Masters this year, tying for the 10th position on the leaderboard. The young golfer has had great outings at the previous edition of the event, with T4 being his highest among three Top15 finishes.

World no. 2 Scottie Scheffler is at number 4 on the list of PGA power rankings. The 2022 Masters champion tied at T10 in this year’s edition of the major tournament. This year, Scheffler will make his debut at the Harbour Town Golf Links.

At number 3, we have 26-year-old Colin Morikawa. He had a good outing at the Masters this year, tying for 10th place with Fitzpatrick, Scheffler, and Schauffele. His performance at the Augusta National was his fifth Top 15 finish of the year so far.

25-year-old Cameron Young, who powered his way to a T7 finish at the Masters on Sunday, is a strong favorite to emerge victorious at the 2023 RBC Heritage. He debuted at Hilton Head last year and registered an impressive T3 finish.

Finally, last year’s runner up Patrick Cantlay is the strongest contender to win at Hilton Head this year. He had a good run at the Masters this year, tying at the 14th spot with Gary Woodland. A regular face on the leaderboard, this year’s RBC Heritage could be a big chance for Cantlay to walk home with the much-coveted trophy.

The field at 2023 RBC Heritage and prize purse

Despite a challenging week at Augusta National, several golfers are set to return to action at the Hilton Head. Among them is the 2023 Masters winner and world no. 1 Jon Rahm. The 28-year-old will be a favorite at the PGA Tour event this year. 42 of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking will be part of the 146-player field this year. One big name who will be missing from the action is World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who also missed the cut at the Masters this year.

The highly competitive field will go head-to-head for a part of the lucrative $20 million purse. The winning golfer will take home a whopping $3.6 million in earnings.

Defending champion at 2023 RBC Heritage

Another big favorite who is returning to the 55th edition of the RBC Heritage is its reigning champion and World No. 16 Jordan Spieth. The golfer had a fantastic run at the Masters this year, tying at T4 with Russell Henley and LIV golfer Patrick Reed. Spieth will be hoping to beat the other golfing heavyweights to successfully defend his trophy this year.
