This week the PGA Tour has served the fans a double-trouble with its events. While many fans are focused on the Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill Golf Course, the Puerto Rico Open is also underway in the Rio Grande. The Grand Reserve Country Club is hosting the lesser-known Tour event this week. But that doesn’t mean that the competition isn’t heavy. And with the stakes nearly as high as they get on the tour, the event is bound to keep the fans glued to their seats.
Field and format at the 2023 Puerto Rico Open
Headed by the likes of Zac Blair, Ryan Armour, and Akshay Bhatia, the Puerto Rico Open is bound to see close competition throughout its four rounds. 120 players take the field at the event, and since it’s an open event, players have been able to make their way onto the course due to the PGA Tour’s priority order and other criteria.

But not all the players who begin the event will see it through. Similar to the regular Tour events, the Puerto Rico Open too sees a cut after 36 holes. This means that nearly half the field will head home early. Only the top 65 players and ties will go on to play on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is the 18th on the Tour schedule for the 2023 season. Its defending champion, Ryan Brehm, who won with a whopping six-stroke lead last year and generously gave a chunk of it to his caddie, will not be around to try and retain the title because he is currently competing at the AP Invitational. So, the trophy is certainly up for grabs.
The total purse and winner’s cut for the tournament
Players will see an enormous sum of $3.8 million being distributed among those that make the cut. Of this, the winner stands to receive the standard 18% cut as per the PGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart. This makes his share a whopping $684,000.
Alongside the prize money, the winner will also receive 300 FedEx Cup points and 67 OWGR points, based on field strength. Additionally, he will take home an exemption into next year’s Tournament of Champions and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour itself.
