For one week each year, the international spotlight shines brightly on Newport Beach and Orange County. Massive galleries can be witnessed in Newport Beach Country Club. And to add to the feel of excitement, Hoag Classic is the finest stop on the PGA TOUR Champions. In 2019, this event entered a new era with Hoag as the title sponsor and Konica Minolta and City National Bank as presenting partners. The Hoag Classic saw unimaginable attendance and a recharged excitement about PGA TOUR golf in Orange County. But what about this year? What is the prize money on the line?

What is on the line at the 2023 Hoag Classic?

It’s the fifth event of the season 2023. 78 golfers will take over the California host course and play to claim the prize money. There is no cut. This year, the field will be headed by Miguel Angel Jimenez, Bernhard Langer, and Steve Stricker. The top five players in the final standings will be paid a part of the $2.1 million bonus pool based on the points. The PGA Tour Champions does not offer Official World Golf Ranking points for its events.

However, it is not just money on the line. There are important points, perks, and benefits on the line for the field — in particular, the tournament winner. The money earned this week will be counted toward the Charles Schwab Cup points list. Each dollar earned will translate into a regular season point to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs in 2023.

Additionally, the Hoag Classic attracts a field of professional players that rivals any major championship in golf, creating compelling competition for our fans. Some notable legends include Ernie Els, Fred

Couples, John Daly, Mark O’Meara, Tom Kite, and many more.
