The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, held at Playa del Carmen, south of Cancún, is a professional golf tournament. This tournament is part of the PGA Tour in Mexico, launched in February 2007, and was the first PGA Tour event of the century in Mexico. The purse is big bucks, but beyond that, there are perks and benefits to be enjoyed by the championship winner. 

The tournament’s winner will get 500 FedEx Cup points and 20 Official World Golf Ranking points. Not to mention that these points will be available only based on the field strength. Not just that, the winner will also have a two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour and an easy entry in the 2023 Masters and 2023 PGA Championship.

Details of World Wide Technology Championship 2022

Golfers are playing in the championship at El Cameleon Golf Course in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, this year. The 2022 championship field is headed by Seamus Power, Chesson Hadley, Carson Young, and many more world’s best players. There will be the top 65 players and ties for the tournament’s final two rounds. They will award every player who can finish the four rounds of the match.

Patrick McDonald, analyzer at ‘SportLine’, analyzed the field of the seventh PGA Tour-sanctioned event of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour schedule. According to him, pro players like Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Collin Morikawa, and in like manner, will have the best shot at the prize money.

Not to mention the defending champion of the World Wide Technology Championship, Viktor Hovland. He is coming in hot this year as he was tied for fifth at the Zozo Championship and T-20 at the CJ Cup this year. He is ready to win this year’s Mayakoba championship and defend his title.

Purse and prize money breakdown

The 2022 World Wide Technology Championship’s purse is $8.2 million. Pro golfers will compete in Mayakoba, where the winner will take home $1,476,000. The winner’s prize amount is the standard 18% of the total purse amount, set by the PGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart.

The field will be 132 players, playing for a 36-hole cut, with the top 65 golfers left in the end, enjoying the prize money. Here is the breakdown of the purse of the tournament.
