The 2022 Women’s PGA Championship sponsored by KPMG commenced on Thursday at the Congressional Country Club. The club has previously hosted the U.S. Open three times. South Korean LPGA Pro, Chun In Gee is currently on top of the leader board in the championship.

The Tournament is setting a great example of women’s empowerment in the golf world as well as in the sports community. Female athletes often miss out on opportunities that men receive in most sports. But this time, LPGA has partnered with KPMG to give a completely different identity to the event. Keep reading to know how much the winner will take home at the end of the championship!
CEO of KPMG gives a statement about the purses
The CEO of KPMG, Paul Knopp, recently said in a statement, “We are accelerating the advancement, development, and empowerment of women both on and off the golf course.” He further added, “The significantly increased purse size — along with top courses in major markets, network TV coverage, and advanced data and analytics capabilities provided via KPMG Performance Insights — are tangible examples of our commitment to elevate the world-class athletes on the LPGA Tour.”

The KPMG sponsorship has taken the LPGA Tour to a much higher ground than before. The courses which only hosted men’s majors are now the fields for the Women’s PGA Championship. And 99 out of the top 100 players on the LPGA Tour’s money list are ready to be on the ground.
The prize money for the 2022 Women’s PGA Championship
KPMG has doubled the purses of the players this year and the winner will receive a whopping $1.35 million. If we compare the prize money to the earlier amount, it is nearly triple of what it was a decade ago. The total purse for the event is $9 million.
USGA has signed up a sponsorship with ProMedica in the U.S. Women’s Open to almost double the prize money. The amount was already the largest in all the LPGA Majors. Golfer Minjee Lee recently earned $1.8 million out of the $10 million purses this month at Pine Needles.

The rise in the prize money in the second-oldest LPGA major is about 300% as compared to the year 2014. KPMG and LPGA signed up with PGA for increasing the prize money and raising the profile.

The upcoming event in France named the ‘Amundi Evian Championship’ recently announced its new prize money, which is $6.8 million, giving it a $2 million increase from earlier. The AIG Women’s British Open has also gradually increased the purse and brought it to $6.8 million.
