The venue itself is a good blend of luxury and golf, the resort boasting four courses. One of them, of course, is the Copperhead Course for the Valspar Championship. It was designed by the architect Lawrence ‘Larry’ Packard, the courses highlighting Carolina Sandhills and Georgia Foothills.

The tournament was also known as the Tampa Bay Classic when it began. Other names like Chrysler Championship or the PODS Championship were used before settling on the Valspar Championship in 2014. By the looks of it, Valspar is here to stay as the main sponsor.

Furthermore, the venue has made it to Golf Digest’s list of “Top 100 Courses You Can Play,” and “Top 75 Golf Resorts in America.” Irrespective of which course one chooses, the venue promises a great experience.

Was the event played in 2020?

While the tournament has been around since 2000, it was canceled in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. With the entire sports world stunted, the Valspar Championship had to take one year off. Of course, they returned in 2021 with renewed enthusiasm.
