Days before The Masters begin, the PGA Tour heads to Texas for the Valero Texas Open. Despite a few withdrawals, the Texas Open remains a high-energy event, especially with a major right around the corner. Players performing at Augusta National later this month bring along a different sort of energy, making sure that the competitive spirit remains intact on the course.

While the Masters will be held in Augusta, the Valero Texas Open takes place at the TPC San Antonio – AT&T Oaks Course.

The venue is luxurious, with TPC San Antonio being open only to members. Players will also have two courses to choose from. The Oaks Course, which is used for the Texas Open, was designed by tour icon Greg Norman. Sergio Garcia worked as a player consultant during the project.

What kind of experience are people looking for?

This was, as per the site, a new type of ‘natural‘ look course for the tour. Furthermore, it is extremely tournament friendly and offers its own unique experience. The design, however, is described as traditional and intimate. Grasses and plants make it into a picturesque course, with Bermuda grasses making it easier and optimal to play.

The other course is the Canyons course, which offers an amazing view of the woods.

Commencing in 1922, the Texas Open is also the third-oldest PGA Tour event. Jordan Spieth won the event in 2021 and will be back with the same goal in mind. Furthermore, TPC San Antonio has hosted the event since 2010. The course, however, is one of the most difficult ones.

Huge bunkers are littered across the course, one right in the middle at the 16th hole. The wind too will have to be considered before one takes the shots.
