SAS is hosting the SAS Championship of 2022, one of the premier tournaments played on the PGA Tour Championship. The tournament will be held between October 14-16, 2022, at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC. The former winner of the 2021 SAS Championship, Lee Janzen, will be seen defending his title and to claim the largest purse in any PGA Championships as of now.

SAS Championship 2022: Details about the event

The SAS Championship 2022 is currently underway at the Prestonwood Country Club. The golf matches in the tournament started on Friday. Players like Rocco Mediate, Tom Gillis, Scott McCarron, and many more are playing this year to claim the prize. For now, Mediate is on top of the leaderboard and showing good skills.

The course for this year’s tournament at Prestonwood is at Par 72, and money is not the only important factor, but it has various perks. Although the benefits and perks are only limited to the tournament’s winner, they are something to look forward to. They will consider the money earned by the winner towards the Charles Schwab Cup points list. Each dollar earned by the winner will translate into a regular season point to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs in 2022. 

SAS Championship is the final tournament taking place before the postseason of the PGA Tour Champions starts. Last year, Lee Janzen defeated Miguel Ángel Jiménez in the playoff at SAS Championship; the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs were his next target. They set the 2021 SAS Championship purse for $2.1 million, and the winner’s share will be the standard 15% payout, which equals $315,000. They set the standard rate according to the PGA Tour Champions’ prize money distribution chart.
