The RBC Canadian Open has already begun with Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and other golf legends on the field. The event was last played in 2019, and it guarantees money to every player who makes it through all four rounds.
The tournament works in a way where a cut is made to the 65 players on the top after 36 holes. It is being played at the St. George’s Golf and Country Club located in Toronto, Ontario.

Winner’s share for the RBC Canadian Open
The total purse for the RBC Open this year amounts to $8,700,000. Out of this amount, the winner will take home an amount of $1,566,000 with the RBC Title.
This marks a significant increase in the purse of the tournament from 2019. Rory McIlroy claimed the win three years ago and took home $1.36m. Back then, the total purse for the event was $7.6m.
The former winner of the challenge has returned this season to defend his title and win the prize money again. But this time, he is competing against World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, PGA Champion Justin Thomas, Sam Burns, and Cameron Smith. Sam Burns recently won the Charles Schwab Challenge, while Cameron Smith is the Players Champion.

Other Benefits for the winner
Other than the prize money, the winner will receive additional benefits too. At the end of the event, the winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points. The champion will also get 50 Official World Golf Ranking points. But this is not all.

The winner will be given a two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour, along with a guaranteed place in the 2023 Masters and 2023 PGA Championship. The player will also get to play at the Sentry Tournament of Champions next year.
The PGA Tour has been the highest-paying Tour in the field of golf. But things changed last week after the LIV Golf Series came into the picture and put forward a $25 million purse.

It will be interesting to see how the tournament goes when it has finally returned after being on hold for two consecutive years due to covid restrictions. The venue of the event, St George’s, holds a history of hosting five Canadian Women’s Opens as well as the Invictus Games in 2017.
