Who is the leader after round two at the 2022 PGA Championship?
Will Zalatoris, an emerging name in golf, is currently leading after round two on Friday. The young American professional played brilliant golf on a tough day at Southern Hills Country Club and found it easy to shoot a low score on a challenging day. As a result, he is the leader of the pack after 36 holes at the major championship event. Zalatoris has an overall score of nine-under-par and currently enters the moving day, Saturday, with a one-shot lead over the field.
Moreover, Will shot a low bogey-free round of five-under-par, 65 to end the second round on the top of the leaderboard. His round of 65 on Friday included one birdie and eight straight pars on the opening nine holes. As a result, he moved out in one-under-par, 34. He made four birdies on the back nine to make the turn in four-under-par, 31.
Mito Pereira is just one-shot back from Will. He is currently at an overall score of eight-under-par heading into the third round on Saturday in solo second position. Furthermore, Mito carded a round of six-under-par, 64 to move five spots up on the leaderboard. His round of 64 included four birdies on the opening nine holes. As a result, he moved out in four-under-par, 31. Pereira made three birdies and one bogey on the back nine to wrap up his solid round at Southern Hills.
Winner’s payout at the 2022 PGA Championship
The major championship event had a total prize money purse worth $12 million in 2021 when Phil Mickelson won at the Ocean Course. After claiming his sixth major championship victory, he took home a prize money share worth $2.16 million. Moreover, the total prize money purse will remain the same in 2022 at $12 million. At the same time, apart from taking home the Wanamaker Trophy, the winner will take home more than $2 million after winning the major championship event on Sunday.
Those who will finish near the top of the leaderboard will not go home empty-handed. Players who finish within the top 26 on the leaderboard are guaranteed a six-figure pay cheque after the tournament commences on Sunday. Furthermore, the runner-up at the PGA Championship will take home $1,296,000. Not to forget, after the cutline was enforced yesterday, only the top 70 professionals and ties advanced on to the weekend at Southern Hills Country Club.
