The event does not have any defending champion this week as it is being played for the first time on the PGA Tour schedule. However, it was earlier played on the Korn Ferry Tour. The PGA Tour makes its second stop in Mexico in the 2021-2022 season. Viktor Hovland triumphed at the World Wide Technology Championship in Mayakoba in November.
