With the 2022 season of the LPGA coming to a close, the Tour heads to the Sunshine State for the Pelican Women’s Championship. The tournament begins today at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The 3-day event will mark the second-to-last tournament on the tour.

Seven of the worlds top ten are competing for the title. The huge purse and winner’s split will certainly motivate the players to give it their all.

The Championship’s incredible roster

Competing in the Pelican Women’s Championship are also 30 of the world’s top 50 players, including last year’s runner-up, Sei Young Kim. She will undoubtedly be looking for redemption after last year’s playoff loss. Along with her are golf stars like Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko.

The top 60 players at the end of the Pelican Championship get into the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. The winner of that tournament wins the race to the CME Globe and the $1.5 million cash prize that goes with it.

The purse and split of the 2022 LPGA Pelican Women’s Championship

The total purse value for the championship is set at $2 million, of which the winner will receive a whopping $3,000,000. The runner-up stands to get a little over 180,000 dollars.

The championship is a massive 72-hole event, with a 120-player field. After the first 36 holes, a cut is made to eliminate the bottom of the leaderboard. Only the top 70 players and ties move on to play the final two rounds of the tournament.

The victor sees more benefits than just the prize money. Like a two-year exemption on the LPGA Tour, as well berths into other big tournaments. The winner earns 500 points towards the Race to The CME Globe, while the rest of the field’s points are based on their finish.
