The ISPS Handa World Invitational started on 11th August this year and is halfway through in Northern Ireland. The tri-sanctioned tournament has a huge field all set for the golfers. The winner from last year’s tournament has returned this year to fight for his title. However, what’s different this year is the prize money for the tournament.

The format for the ISPS Handa World Invitational

The gigantic 288-player field is divided equally between male and female athletes. One of the sections is for the members of the DP World Tour, while the other one has players from the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour. The tournament has a unique yet interesting format this year.

The halfway cut will take the top 60 players forward, while another cut ahead will leave the tournament with the top 35 players. Daniel Gavins won the event last year. Gavins scored 65 in the final round to claim his victory in the tournament.

Who is on the top of the leaderboard for the tournament?

Leading the tournament and sitting on nine-under is the Scottish professional golfer, Ewen Ferguson. After the first day of the event, Ferguson hit five birdies at Galgorm Castle in his nine-under-par round. After carding his second 61, the golfer said, “I feel good…I wasn’t doing too well yesterday in the pro-am. I played with Niall (Horan) and Robbie and I kept hitting a lot of bunkers. Today was just nice to avoid them all, which was good and obviously a 61, a course record is pretty nice.”

The 36-hole cut event will benefit the top 65 men along with ties, who will be ranked and rewarded. However, the prize money for the event has seen some increase in comparison to last year.
