The conversations around the controversial picks for the Ryder Cup have subsided gradually. Those who were in protest of the picks have by now accepted that it is what it is, and have pushed it behind. The focus has shifted to the excitement of the Ryder Cup, which is merely a couple of weeks ahead.
Meanwhile, in a press conference ahead of the Fortinet Championship, Justin Thomas has spoken his mind about the whole idea of proving himself. His statement was interesting. He didn’t seems to be under any sort of pressure at all. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

With less than a day left before the beginning of the Fortinet Championship, Justin Thomas was present at the pre-tournament press conference. A journalist asked him about using the Fortinet Championship to propel himself for the upcoming Ryder Cup.
Justin Thomas answered in a calm, serene voice and said, “I don’t think it’s that important.” He explained that since he is already on the Ryder Cup team, he doesn’t really have to prove anything.
Thomas confessed how he wasn’t trying to propel his season or gain momentum for the Ryder Cup through the Fortinet. He emphasized how he was just trying to play the tournament well and focus on his golf.
Thomas also spoke about how he has not played since the Wyndham Championship. Thomas finished Wyndham with a shared 12th position. It was a massive improvement over his four previous tournaments. He had failed to make the cut in three of them and finished with a shared 60th position in one of them.
Justin Thomas confessed he would not pressure himself more than he already is. It seemed the star’s confidence meter was sufficiently full after his spot in the Ryder Cup team came to him. He sounded ready for anything.

Justin Thomas, after clarifying he had nothing to prove, talked about how he hasn’t played since the Wyndham Championship, which was about six weeks back. Thomas also admitted that he gets “rusty” when he hasn’t played in for two or three weeks.
He explained how after knowing he would play in the Ryder Cup, and in the Fortinet Championship, he started practising two weeks back. Thomas said he was looking forward to the challenge of playing well in this tournament after the past few weeks.
It’s true that he must already be under a lot of pressure, and any more pressure might hamper his performance. However, an unimpressive performance in the tournament could also impact his mindset prior to the Ryder Cup.
