‘We Hook the Stupid Ball, It Hits the Tree’: Michael Jordan Once Explained the Difference Between Tiger Woods and Others

Woods is an inspiration for many young golfers. However, Tiger Woods has also idolized a lot of athletes in his life. There was a time when Woods said he wanted to end up breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record on the field. But there is another big name whose footsteps Woods wanted to follow, and later became his closest friend – Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan compares Tiger Woods’ game with other players

Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan stayed close for several years; more than a decade. The two have always said good things about each other in interviews.

Jordan also penned a piece about his dear friend for ‘ESPN The Magazine’. Jordan used to play golf with Woods and, therefore, knew about his abilities and skills better than most people.

Jordan wrote, “If he wants to hook it around the damn tree, he’ll do it…when we hook the stupid ball, it hits the tree.” He continued speaking about Woods’ confidence and elaborated that he knew why Woods was so self-assured on the field.

Jordan pointed out that Woods’ work ethic and his success have given him the confidence he has. Jordan always supported Woods in all his rough times, and the golfer also appreciated Jordan’s presence in his life. The duo also met at social events and played golf together, and Charles Barkley used to give them company in doing so.

Woods can relate to Michael Jordan

Tiger Woods has made many friends in the sports world. But his bond with Michael Jordan was a special one. He once said that Jordan was one of the best basketball players to have ever lived. “… what better person to relate to me than… a guy who’s down to earth, who’s an athlete, who can relate to another athlete,” said Woods.

Tiger Woods went through a rough patch after his divorce from his ex-wife. But Jordan was there with the golfer to support him during his hard times. However, there have been no reports about the two being in contact in the recent past.
