Tiger Woods has been one of the most inspirational figures in the sports world. From inspiring young children to play the sport, to encouraging his teammates to improve their games, he has been very influential in the golf world. But the golf legend’s role doesn’t just end with golf. He motivates athletes in other sports as well. Woods once even gave NBA superstar Steph Curry a nudge towards his first championship win with his bold challenge.
The NBA star is an avid golfer. From playing against Phil Mickelson to challenging Jon Rahm to a game, he seems to be quite involved in the golf world. Hence, a pep talk from the golf legend himself was certainly life-changing.

Back in 2015, the GSW was losing two games to one to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference semi-finals. As every NBA and Curry fan knows, the Warriors went on to win the conference that year after a splendid comeback against the Grizzlies. And for the GSW point guard, Woods played a huge role in igniting that comeback.
“He actually called me out of the blue back in 2015 during our playoff run in the second round against Memphis,” said Curry in 2021 on the Huddle & Flow podcast. The Warriors legend explained that Woods gave him the “biggest pep talk” on the phone back then. “He spoke some life into our comeback during that round,” he said.
But it wasn’t just his words of motivation that inspired Curry. During their talk, when the NBA star told the 15-time major winner that he was ready to fight back against the Grizzlies despite them trailing, Woods responded by challenging the star. “Prove it,” the golf legend said, and “dropped the mic” by cutting the call.

The call with Woods had ignited a fire within the four-time NBA Championship winner. Already hungry and eager to grab his first championship ring, the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s words fueled Curry’s ambition further. “No, it don’t get no better than that,” said the NBA star. “He lit the fire under me for sure.”
The Warriors’ point guard went on to score 33 points in their next game against the Grizzlies to help the Golden State Warriors tie the round. Curry faced off against NBA legend LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers in the final round, and the GSW triumphed. Woods’ words undoubtedly rang in his ears after that first championship win. He had, after all, proved himself.
