It is extremely unlikely that an athlete will consistently deliver outstanding performances throughout his career. All athletes see highs and lows, no matter how good they might be. In fact, many greats’ performances frequently have more highs and lows than others. Take a look at the legendary Tiger Woods, for example. Despite his magnificent performances, he almost had NBA legend, Charles Barkley, break out in tears.

Woods’ game suffered terribly in 2010 and 2011
The first 13 years of his career saw Woods winning left, right, and center. The champ had won 71 PGA Tour events in those 13 years. And then it began—the great depression. In 2010, Woods didn’t take home a single trophy. It seemed like his marriage troubles, which took place late in 2009, had affected his game too.

When 2011 came, his game was still suffering. Former close friend, Charles Barkley, expressed regret over Tiger’s performance in an interview with XX Sports Radio. He said, “I hate to see him struggling. To be honest with you I almost started crying last week.” Tiger’s performance back then was certainly not up to the standard he had set for himself.
Barkley went on to add that what he saw wasn’t like Woods’ game at all. He was at the Basketball Hall of Fame watching Woods play when Tiger “snap-hooked that drive into the woods, chipped out, snap-hooked the other ball.” Charles was stunned. He said, “I was like wow! What the hell? I feel bad.”
Tiger Woods makes a comeback in 2012
Despite many fans thinking the 15-time major winner’s career had come to an end after the debacle of 2011, Woods set out to prove them wrong. The following year, Woods started looking like his older self. His swing was sharper, his putts were precise, and he seemed to be looking for redemption.
He won three events in 2012 on the Tour and followed that with five events in 2013. Although Tiger was back to winning, he wasn’t fully back to his former self, who had once won nine events in a single year. Tiger has also been without a major victory since 2008. He won his next major 11 years later, in 2019, and is still looking for his ninth.
