In a recently surfaced Instagram video, Max Homa recalls a heartwarming encounter. In conversation with commenters from Pardon my take Instagram page, he was asked about his meeting with the legendary baseball player, Tommy Lasorda.

Homa reveals that he met the Dodgers great as part of a segment on ‘Inside the PGA Tour.’ After asking him “6 times what his name was”, Tommy offered him an advice. He asked him to always believe in himself. He also told him that when Homa wins his first championship, he will be around to say hello. Max Homa refused to think anything about the interaction, but he did receive a phone call.

True to his word, Tommy Lasorda gave him a phone call when Homa won the Wells Fargo Championship, his first tour event. The FaceTime call came when Homa was in the middle of his victory press conference. “That was a shocking one. I didn’t know who was going to be on the other end of that phone call,” Homa said, and then held a two-minute conversation with Tommy.

Lasorda told him that he was proud of Max Homa’s victory. And promised to be there in person for him next. It is amazing to see two people from different sport backgrounds come together and share a loving bond.

Homa has been a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and meeting the legend was magical. It has been a pleasant few weeks for Homa. His performance at the BMW Championship proves that as well.

Will Homa go home as a winner?

The PGA pro is ranked seventh in the FedEx Cup rankings. But he set a course record with an eight-under-par 62 to seize a two-stroke lead after Friday’s second round. The 32-year-old American carded ten birdies against two bogeys at Olympia Fields in suburban Chicago. Homa went on to break the old record of 63 which Rickie Fowler and Vijay Singh shared earlier.

In his flash interview, he called it a really delightful day. And thought his game was pretty cool. Homa felt it was rare for him to point in one direction and take his shot, only to realize that the ball ended in his favor. He was both surprised and pleased with his performance. And wished to maintain the form going into the weekend at Olympia Fields.

His takeaway from the two days in this field has been that he is playing some very good golf, but at the same time his vision to take the same energy forward, defines that he needs a victory. Will the weekend be a good one for him?

In addition to the prize money that comes out from the BMW Championship, players are also seeking the top 30 spots in season points. If they qualify, the next step is the following week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.
