The football world just saw the end of the transfer market and there were some insane deals that took place this summer. There were two confirmed deals that shocked the world, and one that almost did. Lionel Messi to PSG and Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United belong to the first category, while Kylian Mbappe’s failed move to Real Madrid falls under the latter. This has got the whole world buzzing, and Englishman Lee Westwood recently gave his take on it.

There has never been a transfer market like this before. Two of the greatest footballers in history moving clubs in the same window – a year ago, people would’ve considered this thought to be foolish, but 2021 really made it happen.

However, while fans of the respective clubs enjoyed their flashy new signings, the transfer market ended in agony for Real Madrid supporters. The Spanish club placed a humungous bid for 22-year-old Mbappe but failed to sign the forward, despite him wanting to leave the club.

Lee Westwood reacts to PSG declining Mbappe deal

Football is one of the richest sports in the world, and the transfer market proves it every year. The athletes’ wages are also a testament and Real Madrid rank as one of the most valuable clubs in the world. But even a club of Madrid’s stature could not lure PSG into selling one of the brightest talents in the sport.

As per reports, the Los Blancos placed a €170m bid for Kylian Mbappe a few days ago. News outlets were soon posting that the deal is almost done and that the French national would play for Real Madrid soon. However, the signing never happened. Mbappe will spend this season playing for PSG.

This whole transfer saga between PSG and Real Madrid puzzled the onlookers. Fans were constantly updated about a move taking place, and so was professional golfer Lee Westwood. Being a follower of the sport, he too, was keen to see Mbappe embark on a journey to his dream destination.

But PSG rejecting Madrid’s offer took Westwood aback. The 48-year-old was not expecting the Parisian club to turn down an offer that nearly stretched to the price that they paid for Neymar Jr.

Lee Westwood certainly knows the transfer deals that take place in football. He also knows that a club very rarely turns down such an offer. Hence, he could not fathom what PSG’s owners were thinking. Could you?
