Every once in a while, everyone loves to relax and take a break from their daily life. Recently, F1 racer Carlos Sainz, who is in his first year with Ferrari, took some time off to play golf with European Tour icon Ian Poulter. Their interactions ranged from some anecdotes to golf tips while they competed in a round of golf.

They met ahead of the race week in Austin, Texas, playing for a few hours at the Hills Country Club. It goes without saying that fans seemed to love the video, and were excited to watch them together.

Ian Poulter and Carlos Sainz team up for a round of golf

The video starts with Poulter getting off a plane, and driving to the golf course so he can meet Sainz. They chat for a little while before Sainz offers to drive the cart, causing Poulter to joke about his safety. While PGA Tour shared the clip on Twitter, they uploaded an extended version of the same on YouTube.

While giving Sainz tips on his swing (which worked!), Poulter also asked him about starting on golf. As per Sainz, his father started him on golf, forcing him into classes when he was a kid. “Now I thank him for it,” he said. Sainz explained that it is the only sport where, for hours, you focus and relax, not worrying about anything else.

At one point, Sainz even refers to Poulter as a magician from the sand. At some holes, Sainz even expresses his frustration, after which Poulter helps him adjust his swing and form. The video closes with them thanking each other, and Sainz even signing a Ferrari t-shirt for Poulter.

How has Sainz’s recent performance been?

The video was shot ahead of the US Grand Prix, where Sainz finished seventh. While he did hope for a better result, he was somewhat happy with the result. “Surprisingly, we managed to turn the soft into a medium, so to speak, with more grip,” he said. This indicates that his setup was good, the expected ‘extreme degradation’ not taking place.
