Former World No.1 John McEnroe recently talked about the current tennis icons. He discussed the form and future of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray. In a recent interview, the 7-time Grand Slam winner praised Djokovic and expressed his belief that Nole has a good chance of winning the French Open 2020 title.
“I rate Novak’s chances as highly as high as Rafa’s at the French Open,” said the enthusiastic McEnroe in an interview.
The former American player even appreciated the Serbian player for showing a strong character after the incident at the US Open 2020.

“I’m surprised that it doesn’t seem to have affected him that much and that shows a lot of strength of character. He was probably going to win the whole thing. So it is a wasted chance but how he responded afterward, he did absolutely the right thing.”

Talking about his performance in the last decade, McEnroe said that the 17-time Grand Slam winner has emerged as one of the greatest in the contemporary era.
“I think he’s very thoughtful. He comes out and says that he wants to make history and be the best of the best, which is putting even more expectation on yourself. But, he’s embraced that,” remarked the 62-year-old.
Answering whether the 33-year-old is the greatest so far or not, McEnroe said that the player had already proven himself.
“He’s a deep thinker. He’s been able to break himself into the two all-time greatest players and be part of that mix where you decide maybe Novak will be the greatest.”

The tennis legend went a step ahead and described Djoker as a player even better than him. McEnroe stated that the Serbian hadn’t let Nadal and Federer overshadow him.
“The fact that people can even say that with Roger and Rafa around shows you how amazing a player he is. Novak is a way better player than I was. But I had the same thing with Connors and Borg and trying to get that respect. He’s been able to do that, so that shows you a lot about his character,” concluded the cheerful American.

Djokovic has certainly impressed many tennis greats with his exploits in the sport. He is currently playing at the French Open 2020. As he is unbeaten this year, he will surely be aiming for his second French Open title.
