Ghost of Tsushima has bagged yet another title. Sucker Punch is behind the open-world samurai game that has transformed the gaming experience with its immersive gameplay.

Ghost of Tsushima has been an astounding success for Sony, breaking broken several records in just four months of its release.

The title has sold over five million copies since July 17 for PlayStation 4, making it the “fastest-selling first party original.”

The announcement came from PlayStation Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst. He made the announcement on Twitter, congratulating Sucker Punch for its overwhelming achievement.

Ghost of Tsushima is the fastest-selling ‘first party original’

Sony shared a statistic claiming that Ghost of Tsushima is the fastest-selling new IP. It sold over 2.4 million copies in the first three days of its release.

However, the focus key-phrase in this feat is ‘original’. While Sucker Punch’s Kurosawa-inspired samurai title has been a blockbuster, there are other PlayStation titles that have performed much better.

The list includes titles like The Last of Us II and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Spider-Man sold over 3.3 million copies in its first three days alone, but it’s not original as the IP is owned by Marvel.

The Last of Us II released a month before Ghost of Tsushima and sold over 4 million copies in its first three days of release. But it’s not counted as an original title, as it’s a sequel to an established IP.

Horizon Zero Dawn came pretty close to toppling Ghost of Tsushima, after selling over 3.4 million units in the same window as Sucker Punch’s immersive masterclass.

Ghost of Tsushima has also received several updates since its launch. The most recent update came last month when the devs added the cooperative Legends mode. This has become a central update for all RPGs. This mode enables the players to complete objectives and missions either solo or as part of a four-person online squad.

Those who are purchasing PlayStation 5 can rejoice, as the title will be accessible via backward compatibility. More importantly,  the game boost will make it possible to run the game at 60fps with even decreased loading time, which comes as good news for PlayStation patrons.
