Williams driver George Russell has mentioned that the 2022 car differs completely from the current generation of cars. Formula One is introducing a new set of regulations for the 2022 season. The regulations will make the cars slimmer as the teams are instructed to cut downforce.
The regulations are aiming to bring teams closer on the grid. Russell recently did simulator work on the 2022 car. He mentioned that the new car ‘is a different ball game’ from the 2021 car.
This given the struggling British team hope at they are currently at the back of the grid. George also stated that he is not heavily involved in the development of the 2022 car.

It’s such early days, just building those foundations: George Russell
As reported by Autosport.com, Russell has mentioned that Williams have started developing the 2022 car. The cars next year will be a step slower, which will allow more wheel-to-wheel racing.
“It’s such early days, just building those foundations,” Russell said. “I guess from the driving perspective, you’re just constantly giving feedback from this year’s car, what you would want from next year’s car.
“But it’s a completely different ball game. I think next year, probably one of the biggest changes ever in the Formula 1 regs.” said George Russell.
He also mentioned that the 2022 season is unknown for all the teams. “Right now, I guess it’s the same for all of the teams, trying to find their feet and understanding where they can exploit and find more performance.
“But until we hit that track at the first test next year, nobody is going to have any idea.” said the Williams driver.
