Gautam Gambhir, who was left out of the 15 member squad for the New Zealand Test series, has been recalled for the 2nd test of the series which starts from 30th September at Eden Gardens.
The southpaw is all set to replace Karnataka’s wicket keeper batsmen KL Rahul who suffered a hamstring injury in the second innings of the Kanpur test. The batsman couldn’t take part in further proceedings.
The decision of not picking the Delhi Opener after a wonderful Duleep Trophy performance had opened the floodgates for controversies. The test recall for the left hander proves to be a respite for the southpaw and his fans.
Gambhir last played a test in 2014 against England at the Oval. Though he couldn’t find a place in the Indian side after that test due to unsatisfactory performance, Gambhir’s 356 runs in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy got him a test recall.
Jayant Yadav was the other replacement in the squad for Ishant Sharma. Sharma had diagnosed chikungunya before the milestone test and thus got left out of the 500th test.
