Among the many announcements, the one that stood out was Final Fantasy XVI, as they had a surprise planned for their fans.
During The Game Awards 2023, Square Enix officially unveiled the highly anticipated DLCs for Final Fantasy XVI, titled Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide. What makes this news more shocking is that the DLCs were shadow-dropped for fans to start playing as the announcement was made. But, ahead of the drop of the DLCs, an update from Yoshi-P has broken the hearts of millions of gamers around the world.

Famitsu is one of the most well-known sources of news on the Japanese gaming scene and they had a word with Naoki Yoshida, the producer. Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the insider reported (translated to English), “Yoshi-P says they are not expecting to make a sequel/spin-off to FF16 and that most of the team have disbanded to new projects!”

Yoshi-P reveals that the development team for Final Fantasy XVI has disbanded, except for the main DLC team. He states that they do not expect to create a sequel or spin-off for FF16. In further detail, he shared how the team that was working on Final Fantasy 16 has mostly disbanded into other projects. However, Yoshida remains uncertain about any future projects related to FF16, leaving it open-ended.
While the team has decided to stop working on the project for now, at least they dropped two huge DLCs that will give players enough content to enjoy the game for hours.

Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide are part of a paid expansion for Final Fantasy XVI, continuing the trend of additional content for the game. Similar to past Final Fantasy DLCs, these expansions promise new levels, enemies, bosses, and rewarding experiences for players.

Echoes of the Fallen, the first of the two-story DLCs, was shadow-dropped worldwide shortly after the announcement.
