For the uninitiated, San Andreas has got the longest GTA campaign in the franchise. In total, it consists of 101 missions (including the opening sequence) – the most compared to any other game in the series. Players are put into the shoes of CJ after he comes back to the place where he grew up. Eventually, he gets indulged in crimes by associating with local gangs.
To have a better clarity, here are the Top 5 GTA games in terms of duration to complete the campaign missions:
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – 31.5 hours
- Grand Theft Auto V – 31.5 hours
- Grand Theft Auto IV – 28 hours
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – 19.5 hours
- Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City – 19.5 hours
So the main question is: will GTA 6 beat San Andreas to have a bigger single-player campaign? Well, the answer is yes. And there’s a key reason the most expensive game from Rockstar is expected to have the longest story in the GTA series.
It’s no secret that GTA 6 will have the biggest map yet across all GTA games. Even something as big as GTA V’s sandbox experience will look tiny in front it.

A huge world could translate into more main story missions and ultimately a very-very lengthy campaign duration in general. On average, it could end up being close to or more than 40 hours of story to finish. In the process, it may also have a higher number of total missions as well compared to San Andreas.
