Rockstar Games is preparing for the reveal of their next big game, GTA 6. But the game will be missing a big thing—a story written by Dan Houser. Houser left Rockstar Games in early 2020 and later on, founded his own company, Absurd Ventures. And if his work on GTA is any indication, fans should be thrilled about his upcoming projects.

Dan Houser is best known for being one of the co-founders of Rockstar Games. He was also a longtime writer for almost all the games that this studio has worked on. So naturally, when he left, fans wondered what was next for him. And recent news suggests he has filed new trademarks. What could this mean?

It looks like Dan Houser has started working on his next project!

Dan Houser owned studio, Absurd Ventures, reportedly registered two trademarks. As per the post on X (formerly Twitter), the studio filed for the trademarks months ago, back in July this year. And the trademarks filed are for American Caper and A Better Paradise.

Dan Houser was one of the driving forces behind Rockstar Games. Games like GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are examples of his incredible work. Especially in Red Dead Redemption 2, this game might just have one of the best stories ever told in a video game. Although after RDR2, Dan Houser left Rockstar Games back in March 2020. And ever since, fans were all wondering what would be his next step.

Earlier this year, he announced his new company, Absurd Ventures, which is looking to develop characters, stories, and worlds across different mediums. As reported by Variety, Dan Houser had said, “We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can.” This sounds pretty exciting coming from a guy who is known for his writing prowess.

Earlier this month, Absurd Ventures COO, Wendy Smith reportedly talked about what the studio’s plans. Smith said, “We will have more announcements in the weeks ahead about projects that we’re already in pre-production and production on those IP universes.” While there’s no confirmation about the projects being referred to, it’s fair to believe American Caper and A Better Paradise were in the pipeline all along.

However, there has been no confirmation from the company itself regarding these trademarks. Here’s hoping they come around and make an announcement sooner or later. It will be exciting to see what exactly Dan Houser is working on.

Should fans be worried about writing in Rockstar Games’ newer titles?

While it’s good news that Dan Houser might be working on a new project, it is equally worrying that GTA 6, Rockstar Games’ upcoming title, is now missing the writing that played a role in all the previous games. And of course, the magnitude of his role needs no explanation. There can only be two things happening right now: either Dan wrote the story of GTA 6 before he left the company or there are chances some GTA 6 got new writers.

It would be interesting to see whose name fans get to see under the writer in the credits of GTA 6. Although it would be great to see Dan’s name show up in a GTA game one last time.
