Season of the Wish launched, bringing new activities, rewards, and changes to Destiny 2. A premium-priced Starter Pack was introduced for newcomers alongside the new season. This Starter Pack was soon pointed out as a pay-to-win item. These concerns were then mentioned on Twitter by players about the price for the pack not feeling right.
In response to the growing concerns, Bungie acknowledged the removal of the controversial Destiny 2 Starter Pack via Twitter. Bungie’s statement suggested recognition of player concerns but did not explicitly address the practice of charging money for in-game benefits affecting gameplay.
Bungee said on X, “We’ve heard your concerns and agreed that there are other parts of Destiny 2 that new players should want to dive into first before chasing these Exotic weapons, cosmetics, and upgrade materials”.

One of the issues with the Starter Pack was that its exotic weapons were considered outdated in the current meta. The resources provided were insufficient for fully mastering a piece of armor. Additionally, the overall collection cost more than premium content for a new season of Destiny 2.

The bundle included older exotic weapons like Sleeper Simulant, Ruinous Effigy, and Traveler’s Chosen. Exotic vehicles with some interesting cosmetics were also a part of the package. The resources provided were considered sub-par, even though the original description suggested the pack would supercharge players, which felt like it could be misleading.

Bungie had previously provided a more substantial collection of armor and weapons called ‘Gift of the Thunder Gods’ during the Season of Plunder. This free collection included high-stat armor, weapons with powerful predetermined perks, a unique exotic armor piece, and the Thunderlord. The Gift of the Thunder Gods was praised for better equipping new and returning players for the challenges of the game.
