The New Game+ (NG+) feature has gained quite a lot of popularity in recent years. It is mostly seen in single-players titles which allows players to replay the game with most upgrades, but also increased enemy difficulty and scarcer resources, basically making the game more challenging. This greatly adds to a game’s replay value. Undoubtedly, players waiting for Stellar Blade, the upcoming action title, will be hoping for the feature.
Seems like their wish might come true. Interestingly, there are several key reasons to believe that Stellar Blade will come out with NG+ at launch on PS5.

For the uninitiated, a big PS5 exclusive last year had released without NG+. Well, this title was none other than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac Games. Yes, the NG+ feature was already confirmed for the game but wasn’t available at launch in October 2023. In fact, many of the recent PS4/PS5 exclusives have been launched without NG+.
To name a few, games like Days Gone, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and Marvel’s Spider-Man were released without NG+. And Spider-Man 2 was the latest title in this unexpectedly growing list. However, for the other mentioned games, the NG+ was introduced months after launch. But Spider-Man 2 is yet to get it.
Players were confused about having no NG+ after completing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Their disappointment was later addressed by Insomniac Games’ team in a social media post. The devs then promised to add NG+ with an early update in 2024.

Taking this entire ‘PS5-games-without-New Game Plus’ situation, it seems likely that Sony will try not to repeat this pattern with Stellar Blade. Being a console exclusive, it will be initially available to PS5 owners only. And they won’t like it in case it ends up lacking NG+ at launch. Fans who are excited for Stellar Blade recently expressed this sentiment on Reddit as well. They think it would be perfect to have the option for a complete experience.

A similar situation like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t help in keeping the fans engaged. In fact, it will affect their overall experience with Stellar Blade on PS5. Many of them will be looking to replay the game right after beating it and they will not want to wait for months for NG+. Otherwise, there won’t be anything much to do or explore as far as the replayability is concerned.
