Stellar Blade is arguably one of the most wanted PS5 game of 2024. From being not-so-popular, the new IP has gradually emerged as a fan-favorite in recent months, thanks to its ambitious scale and visual appeal. But while most gamers are ready to dive into its mesmerizing world, they are also worried about its fate, especially when considering that Sony is the publisher. But why?

In recent years, there have been an endless number of PlayStation titles Sony has put a under scanner. Simply put, they have faced content censorship upon release. Seems like players who are eager to enjoy Stellar Blade are concerned regarding Shift-Up’s AAA project over this exact possibility the game may eventually face.

On Reddit, an individual dropped a post while expressing their growing interest in Stellar Blade. With that, however, the Redditor also expressed concern regarding Eve’s appearance. They think it may get altered upon release on PS5. Sony could force the developers to censor the game just so all the weirdos on Twitter don’t freak out. By some miracle this game is uncensored it would be awesome,” wrote the player in the post.

For the uninitiated, Sony happens to be one of the rare (and possibly only) publishers to censor games. In fact, players have received many titles in the last decade on PlayStation with cut content due to company’s own strict policy. Based on that, it ends up removing certain aspects, scenes or interactions between characters that it deems inappropriate.

To name a few examples, games like 2013’s The Last of Us and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune were censored. The simple reason was that these two had several sequences involving too much violence. Although Uncharted didn’t feature as much violence as The Last of Us, it still got restricted in showing aspects like bleeding after gettting shot.

Then, there have been games that are suggestive in nature. Thus, they got toned down in terms of their visual presentation of characters. For example, Sony censored the likes of Devil May Cry 5, Dead or Alive, and 20 Ladies because of either extra violence or the revealing nature of characters.

Now, when it comes to Stellar Blade, there’s not necessarily a problem. Being developed by a Korean studio, the style fits the way most Korean titles are made with a certain color format and an appealing character design. But speaking of the latter, it seems to be the reason why certain players are worried about the game on PS5.

The Redditor seems to be worried whether Sony will change Eve’s current design by the time the game comes out. And that it may look different from what the trailers and other gameplay footage have revealed so far. Only time will tell if Shift-Up’s ambitious title will release with restricted content or not. For now, fans can only hope for a positive outcome.
