The debate around Starfield continues. From a never-seen-before hype to the monumental Xbox marketing, Starfield had everything and yet failed to ‘hit it out of the park’. Despite being branded as Bethesda’s biggest release of the year, the sci-fi exploration couldn’t match up to the expectations of the community. In fact, for a lot of players, the sci-giant felt like a forgetful experience. Well, the reception seems to get colder each day as the game may have got one final nail!
Ever since its launch, Starfield has been a popular trend in subreddit discussions. Throughout the promotional campaign, fans were convinced of the phenomenal potential Bethesda’s launch had. Moreover, aspects like space engineering, planet exploration, and massive dialogue systems, only added value to the branding. But the game’s campaign post-launch has been nothing like the developers hoped. Now, here’s what the latest developments in Steam reviews suggest about the game.

According to the most recent profile updates on the Starfield Steam page, the game received around 7,394 player reviews lately. Out of these numbers over 37% of players downvoted for the game. This brings the sci-fi exploration’s Steam page to the lowest it has been throughout its campaign. In simple words, Starfield is now having “mostly negative reviews.”
For a game that had the potential to dominate the gaming charts for months, the numbers surely are nothing less than shocking. Over the weeks, gaming fans have tried to decode everything that may have gone wrong with the game and what could the developers have done to avoid the fall of Starfield! Most importantly, the question that arises is, what’s the future of Bethesda’s biggest effort in sci-fi RPGs?
The issues with the Xbox-exclusive
Bethesda with Starfield quite evidently wanted to bank on the market of No Man’s Sky. The core problem with the game became the intention to reach out to a mass of the gaming audience. However, there are various factors that didn’t work in favor of the Studios’ approach to creating the sci-fi universe.

Like many Bethesda games, the game seems rough due to the quality concerns. The majority of these issues are objective ones brought on by industry norms that Starfield isn’t meeting. This is about what the creators failed to provide in terms of quality, not about what a player loves or dislikes about a game. Many of these players expected the game to be “Skyrim in space.”

But, instead they saw randomly generated stuff reminiscent of No Man’s Sky, which is a completely different approach from Skyrim’s world-building. Furthermore, the exploring gameplay loop differs greatly from that of Skyrim. The universe feels boring and a lot of users also called the game ‘Jack of 5 games, Master of None’, and the community couldn’t agree more.
Fans feel the developers drifted apart from the soul of the genre making a chaotic mess of different games. Thus, most of the players believe the redemption of the game can be brought by some big updates in the coming season.
