The Day Before has been officially delisted from Steam. Gamers had already declared it a scam following the reveal of untrustworthy gameplay videos across the internet. Seems like the prediction was true. It was released just few days before on the store but now it’s nowhere to be seen. Coming as no surprise, a lot of players have called it the biggest scam of the year 2023 and a complete joke.

Meanwhile, the developing studio behind this ‘scam of a video game’ recently revealed a major announcement. Taking to social media platform X, the devs at Fntastic mentioned that they have decided to shut down the entire studio. But was it all supposed to happen from day one of The Day Before’s initial reveal?

On X, Fntastic dropped an official statement to inform players that the studio is closing down within days after the game’s launch. “Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue,” read the post from the team. So the reason to shut down the studio is that Fntastic is unable to push the game and make it better due to the lack of budget.

However, it looks like the writing was on the wall for this game ever since it was first revealed in 2021. All gaming developers who reviewed the title on YouTube claimed its ‘gameplay’ looked scripted and not real. Also, they alleged that all of it was looking like some AI-generated stuff. Moreover, various fans also started having doubts in their minds. They were having this notion that the gameplay shown from the devs wasn’t actually a gameplay because The Day Before didn’t exist at all.

Further, what made people roll their eyes was the fact that Fntastic had hired various unpaid volunteers in its team for this project. Which means the studio had no money in the first place to pay the employees – had there been any.

For the uninitiated, Fntastic managed to sell over 200,000 copies of The Day Before for a price of $40 before removing it from Steam. Eventually, 50 percent of the sales were refunded – nothing shocking, right? After announcing the closure, Fntastic replied to a user on social media by writing that “This was our first big experience. S**t happens.”

The Day Before was looking like a scam all along

Although it was in development since 2020, almost no gameplay was ever shown publicly. Not to mention that Fntastic had so many amazing opportunities to create the hype through events like The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest; but they didn’t to do that. Probably because there was simply nothing to present at all.

Only in 2023, fans saw the first footage of The Day Before only to slam its trailer as a copy-paste from other popular franchises like Call of Duty, The Last of Us, and The Division. Whatever was shown was just filled with a bland, empty world with generic mechanics and no real soul of a video game. Many people even called it an asset flip due to various elements resembling those of other titles.

What makes the situation highly mysterious is that the devs didn’t even care to have the game trademarked! It was also delayed endlessly before any significant update was revealed.
