GTA 6 will be the best looking GTA title, not because it’s the latest, but because it will make full use of the power of the PS5. But as we get closer to GTA 6’s release year, Sony will unleash the PS5 Pro. So does that mean GTA 6 will look even better? That depends on how much more powerful the PS5 pro will be. And interestingly, there’s a rumor about the pro.
If the latest claim from an insider is anything to go by, PS5 Pro will support 144Hz of display. This translates to even smoother games. But is it really going to be sufficient for something like GTA 6? There are several reasons indicating that even a faster refresh rate support, if there’s one, won’t work to make GTA 6 seem like running at 60 FPS.
PS5 Pro may still struggle with GTA 6

Popular leaker and reliable source Zuby_Tech on X recently took to the social media platform. The insider claimed in their post that Sony’s highly awaited mid-gen upgrade PS5 Pro will support 144Hz on capable monitors. Just to make it clear, the existing original PlayStation 5 model is limited to 120Hz only. With that being said, the new leak will surely give hopes to those fans who can’t go beyond the set limit of the current console.

So far, it’s known through strong reports by various sources that PS5 Pro will have a 5nm Viola SoC. It’s expected to harness the power of AMD’s RDNA 3 GPU with 60 CUs (control unit). That’s a solid improvement of nearly 67 percent when compared to the regular model. The Pro variant will also likely receive a boost from 3840 stream processors. That’s a similar amount to the processors in AMD’s desktop-level GPUs.

But the main reason PS5 Pro may struggle while running titles like GTA 6 is its CPU. Per the experts who have made their predictions on the future device, it won’t have enough power when it comes to handling CPU-intensive tasks (in this case games). The model is rumored to feature an eight core, 16-thread Zen 2 CPU while having 4.6 GHz of speed.

However, this upgrade won’t prove to extremely powerful for GTA 6. Especially, when considering that Rockstar is expected to use a lot of CPU-heavy features in the next major installment. PS5 Pro will probably lag behind in rendering the game’s experience to 60 FPS. Thus, it might get stuck at 30 FPS. Hence, it’s highly unlikely for the product to push the title hard enough in order to present an ultra smooth gameplay. However, none of this should take away from the fact that GTA 6 will still look great on the PS5 and PS5 pro.

Even with the option to support 144Hz, the open-world title may not feel superb during intensive, action-based sequences. Still, it will be interesting to see how the makers tweak the PS5 Pro in order to make it a worthy upgrade for all GTA fans owning a PlayStation 5 right now.
