The new Tera type that the trailer has been teasing has been unveiled as the Stellar type. This type is quite different compared to the ones we are used to. So far, we know that types like fire beat grass and water beat fire, but the Stellar type, comes with no weakness.
The Stellar Tera type functions as a one-time boost to each of a Pokémon’s types of moves, providing STAB ( Same Type Attack Bonus ) without changing the Pokémon’s defensive typing. The Stellar Tera type serves as a counter to other Tera Pokémon by hitting them for super effective damage with Tera Blast.
So far, there has not been any mention of introducing Stellar as the new type in Pokemon like they did with Fairy. The way Stellar works has made the community question its use case and benefits. Most players see it as a gimmick that does not have much application besides out-of-niche cases.
A viable example of using Tera Stellar
Porygon is one of the better Pokemon to use for this Tera type as it comes with the ability: Adaptability. Select a diverse moveset for Porygon, including moves of different types. The Tera type will boost the power of these moves during battle.

If Porygon possesses the Adaptability ability, it will take advantage of its synergy with the Tera type. The combination of Adaptability and Tera type will result in a high damage multiplier making this a niche situation where this Tera type is viable.
Players can use the Stellar Tera type during key moments in battles when they need an extra offensive boost. This could be during a pivotal turn or when facing a Pokémon weak to a specific move type. The Tera type provides a one-time STAB to each of Porygon’s moves irrespective of its type. This means that every move of a different type gains increased power.
Strategically choose moves based on the opponent’s Pokémon and their weaknesses. Activate the Tera type to maximize the power of moves that exploit the opponent’s vulnerabilities. This new mechanic has only just been released and players are still trying to figure out the best ways to use this new mechanic.
