MrBeast is arguably the biggest content creator on the internet right now. He recently topped the list of the highest-earning content creators in 2023. Furthermore, one of his videos has crossed a billion views mark. With his popularity growing exponentially, the 25-year-old has started uploading videos weekly to keep his fans engaged. However, despite his popularity and success, some fans have raised concerns about his content.

Some fans have raised an issue with these weekly uploads. They have accused the YouTuber of not creating realistic content anymore and relying heavily on CGI. To get to the bottom of this issue, we would have to look at the first MrBeast video made using CGI – $456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!

MrBeast history with CGI

YouTubers are not known for using CGI regularly in their videos unless their channel revolves around creating CGI videos like Zack King. However, MrBeast changed this practice by implementing CGI in his Squid Game video. He used CGI to make sets for that video, as some were impossible to recreate in real life. The YouTuber also gave a breakdown of how he used CGI and how the actual sets were. And it worked like a charm for him. The Squid Game video was one of his most viewed videos for a long time.

Since then, the YouTuber has started to actively use CGI in his videos. But netizens have started to complain he is using CGI in places it is not needed. Like in his recent video Train vs Giant Pit, many viewers pointed out that the CGI used in the video was blatantly obvious. The pit and its depths looked like they were made using CGI. Many shots from the video were recreated using CGI to give the appearance that the pit was deeper than it looked.

Another video that has come under fire is his World’s Most Dangerous Trap! In the video, a participant went through a series of challenges to win money. However, netizens have pointed out the YouTuber overused CGI to make the traps more fatal. Netizens compared the first trap of this video and found it to be similar to a video of MrBeast from the past – World’s Most Dangerous Escape Room!

Why is MrBeast using CGI?

Both videos from the YouTuber have contestants escaping from a wall of spikes slowly closing in on them. However, the spikes in the latest video were made using CGI while the earlier video has real props. Furthermore, netizens complained many stunts in the latest video were given the impression of being difficult using CGI. These accusations have divided the fans of the YouTuber. While some are nitpicking that they want MrBeast to return to the days when he built realistic sets, some support his use of CGI. However, there is an explanation as to why he is using CGI often now.

A major reason for that is his weekly upload schedule. If we compare the scale of videos MrBeast makes as compared to an average YouTuber, they possibly cannot be completed in a week. Earlier, the 25-year-old used to upload videos on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. That gave him ample time to build sets and edit the video. But now he is uploading videos every week. Even if he spends millions on each video, creating sets for each video will take some time.

But MrBeast has found a solution to this problem too. While he is using CGI in most of his videos, his recent videos did not use CGI. The YouTuber is now shooting multiple videos at the same time, which was evident from the $10,000 Every Day You Survive In A Grocery Store video. While filming for this video, he also shot 7 Days Stranded At Sea side-by-side. So the whole reason he is using CGI is simple, to deliver an entertaining video to fans on time.

Will the overuse of CGI affect MrBeast’s popularity?

But still, many people have started to complain that the videos made by the YouTuber are now becoming more scripted than realistic. And this may affect the popularity of the YouTuber in the long run. However, one thing MrBeast does best is listen to his audience. He is consistently listening to what fans want and delivers. His changing his thumbnails and increasing the length of his videos because fans liked them that way are prime examples.

So while the netizens may be right about him overusing CGI, many fans also expect he will heed them soon and bring back the realistic sets. However, it may also mean his uploads may get delayed as making physical sets takes a lot of time.
