One of the worst situations game developers can face is leaks. Similar to the unfortunate events with Rockstar Games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developers have now faced a similar leak. Insomniac Games was hit by a Rhysida ransomware attack that led to some sensitive information of the developers surfacing on the web. The leak had some of the most confidential documents of the developers, including screenshots from Wolverine!

Rhysidia, the hacking firm, has emerged as a major threat to mainstream websites this year. They made their first controversial appearance in the headlines for breaching many big companies in Europe back in May. These invasions included The British Library and King Edward VII’s Hospital. But now the group has eyed the giants of the gaming world. Let’s explore what happened when they targeted Insomniac Games.

From Wolverine to employee passports: Spider-Man 2 creators subjected to major cyber attack

Celebrated industry developers Insomniac Games were earlier reported to have been hacked. However, there was no confirmation provided on the same, until a post that took the internet by storm. Ransomware operator Rhysida publicly posted some confidential documents that confirmed Insomniac Games had been hacked. Moreover, it looked like a huge breach of privacy. Apart from some important documents, the leak posted by the hacker group included hints for the next planned events for Insomniac.

Here’s what all does the public claim of the invasion includes: 

  • Some passport scans of Insomniac employees, including one ex-employee recently laid off by the Spider-Man 2 developers. 
  • A personal document of Spider-Man 2’s Peter Parker, Yuri Lowenthal.
  • Internal company emails and signs confidential documents. 
  • An annotated screenshot from a future game, most possibly Wolverine. 

Of all the information that was posted by the group, the Wolverine tease has caught most of the attention. The Wolverine screenshots included character art that could be from the characters appearing in Marvel’s Wolverine. You would think what worse could happen to the developers. Well, this is just the surface of the Rhysidia nightmare!

According to the claims made by the cybercrime group, video game developers have a specific deadline before they auction off all the data that they have gained from the attack. So, all that’s been made public is just a teaser of every bit of information they have hacked from the company. The auction for all the detailed information is starting from a price of 50 Bitcoins (approximately $2 million).

At the time of writing, there hadn’t been any reaction provided by Insomniac Games. It will be interesting to see how the industry giants react to the whole hacking fiasco. Hopefully, the officials can come to a resolution soon because fans wouldn’t want any other project to face such problems.
