We are yet another day closer to The Game Awards 2023 and the excitement is at an all-time high. Gamers from all over have been waiting all year for the event and it’s finally about time. Which game will take the title of Game of the Year? Well, it’s a question on everyone’s mind.

With games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage out this year, the competition is a hard one. And to make things better? The opening act to the concert is a composer who is known for his work in the gaming industry for over a decade.

Lorne Balfe at The Game Awards 2023 orchestra 

Lorne Balfe is a composer from Scotland who will be conducting The Game Awards Orchestra. He started his career composing music for films back in 2002. Ever since then, he knew there was no turning back because now over two decades later, he has an extensive portfolio of compositions for films, television, and video games.

Now, he is set to be conducting the orchestra at The Game Awards. This news was revealed by him on his official X handle. In the post, he said, “Looking forward to conducting The Game Awards Orchestra at this year’s The Game Awards live from the Peacock Theater.”

He added details about when he would go live. Fans can tune in to catch The Game Awards on December 7th at 4:30 pm PST, 7:30 pm EST, and 12:30 am GMT on December 8th. The stream will be taking place on The Game Award’s Official website.

Over the last decade and more, he has worked on many notable games that most gamers must have played.

Lorne Balfe’s work in video games

While Balfe has been working on movies since 2002, he got into composing for games in 2009. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was his first project in the gaming scene and he collaborated with Hans Zimmer for it. Their composition was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Original Score pushing his name into the gaming scene. Along with Hans Zimmer, Lorne has composed music for games like Call of Duty, Crysis 2, and Fifa 19. For the Skylanders games, Balfe worked with Zimmer for the first game and then went on to take over the composition for the following games.

Additionally, he worked on Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, with the main theme by Hans Zimmer and additional music by Andrew Kawczynski & Pete Adams. For Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, he worked on cinematics and multiplayer music with Jesper Kyd, earning a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Original Music.

The year 2012 saw his involvement in Skylanders: Giants and Assassin’s Creed III. The latter earning him another nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Original Music. Moving to 2013, he completed the score for Beyond: Two Souls following the death of Normand Corbeil. The BAFTA Award for Best Original Music and the IMFCA Award for Best Original Score for a Video Game or Interactive Media nominated this project. Additionally, he contributed to Skylanders: Swap Force.

In the following years, he sustained his involvement in the Skylanders series. He also contributed to projects like Trap Team, SuperChargers, and Imaginators. In 2015, he collaborated on Honor of Kings alongside Hans Zimmer, Duncan Watt, and Jeff Broadbent. And in 2018, he co-composed the music for FIFA 19 with Hans Zimmer.
