It looks like gaming is finally heading back to its golden age. Games are selling in millions, and genres’ previously thought niches have started getting successful. Role-playing games have found mainstream success; even CRPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 have gained millions of players and a number of awards. Capcom’s Resident Evil series was slowly going down in popularity a couple of years ago. Fans were getting frustrated because Capcom was not understanding what they wanted. After the disaster that was Resident Evil 6, they had to do things differently. This started taking the series back to its campy horror roots and once again saw success. A success that inspired other developer publishers to do the same with their own survival horror franchises, the prime example being the Dead Space remake.

This is what the stealth genre requires now. Maybe this would happen once the much-awaited remakes of Metal Gear Solid 3 and Splinter Cell made their way to the market. The games are being remade for the current generation of systems and are expected to look incredibly well. Fans have already gotten a glimpse at the Metal Gear Solid one; let’s wait and see how Ubisoft is going to treat its own beloved title.

Besides these remakes, there’s a need for games like Thief, Deus Ex, and Syphon Filter to make a comeback. There have been some rumors of a spiritual successor to Syphon Filter in the works at Sony’s Bend studio. This game is said to be heavily inspired by Metal Gear Solid V too, which makes it sound pretty appealing.
