It hadn’t been a long while since Rockstar Games had to improvise their trailer launch schedule due to leakers’ threat. Unfortunately, that may have been just the surface of the hurdle. According to the latest reports, the company has been allegedly hit by hackers again and they were able to mine out GTA V source codes along with some more confidential data of the developers. This also included details of some canceled DLCs the makers had planned for GTA V updates.

A source code is the blueprint of the game, encompassing everything from gameplay mechanics to graphics rendering. For a game like GTA V, which is a product of extensive development and investment, the source code is not just valuable; it’s a closely guarded secret that represents years of creative and technical effort.

Consequences

The leak of GTA V’s source code is a substantial breach of intellectual property. It exposes the game’s intricate workings to the public, potentially allowing other developers or individuals to copy or modify the game without consent. This can lead to unauthorized versions or derivative works, undermining the original creators’ rights and efforts.

With the source code in the open, there’s an increased risk of exploitation. Malicious actors can scrutinize the code to find and exploit vulnerabilities, which can lead to hacks or cheating in online gameplay, compromising the integrity and fairness of the game.

The GTA V producers, Rockstar Games, may be affected by the leak in ways that go beyond the game itself. Should comparable coding structures or methods be applied in the future, it might put projects like Grand Theft Auto 6 in danger,” a gaming analyst projected.

GTA 6 may not be released until much later unless this problem is fixed, given how much money Rockstar may need to spend to stop this leak and the potentially disastrous impact.
