The world of gaming offers a platform for individuals with various personalities. While on the one hand, some of the gamers enjoy a good fight, full of skills to upgrade their character and weapons, on the other hand, other players show a liking toward pacifism. Thus, it is not surprising to witness pacifism becoming an essential thing in video games. Especially the role-playing games of the modern generation.

In fact, many a time players want to know if they can play without killing even a single enemy. However, it’s not a very new concept. Games like Thief and Deus Ex have had pacifistic modes for a long time. In modern games, Obsidian started this with Fallout New Vegas. With that, let us take a look at some games that provide the platform for this gameplay.

Bethesda is known for its elaborate game designs. It’s nothing new; as a matter of fact, they have been doing it since Daggerfall. But they went pretty overboard with Fallout 3 and then followed that procedure with Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Starfield. Although, they apparently missed something in Fallout 76—the pacifist mode.

Players could play this MMO without killing anyone. But this was not by design, but by mistake. Interestingly, once developers found that out through a QA tester, they decided to keep it in.

Dishonored

Inspired by the very well-known Thief series of games, Dishonored is an excellent stealth game. It has every ingredient that makes a great stealth title. Its mechanics are flawless, it gives players more than one way to complete an objective, and it allows them to complete those objectives without killing a soul.

In Dishonored, players are asked to assassinate some targets, and players can choose to find alternate ways to get rid of them. Finding those ways proves a bit more challenging, but that’s where the fun is. Undoubtedly, Arcane Studios really made a masterpiece here.

Disco Elysium

It’s a very interesting and unique role-playing experience. Primarily because it does not feature a combat system at all. Players are technically unable to engage in combat with their enemies in this title.

How does it work, then? Well, players talk, say the right things, and meet the right people, and that’s how they complete missions. It’s a very unique game, and it literally pays off in a big way once players invest enough time in reading all those lengthy dialogues.

Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided

These games can be played back-to-back, and decisions made in one game count in another. Hence, they are here as one title. Just like Disco Elysium, players can talk to characters to get a desirable result. They would be able to kill too, though, but instead of killing, the necessary combat scenarios can be completed using non-lethal weaponry.

Even boss fights can be completed this way. Hence, instead of going all guns blazing, players sometime decide to choose the non-violent alternative.  These are some games that allow for a pacifist run. While these runs are not as simple as normal ones, they are certainly more rewarding. What do you think regarding the same? Let us know in the comments!
