Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are in big trouble. They cannot seem to shake off the bad luck that stuck them in 2022. Every avid GTA fan knows that last year, a very young hacker leaked a bunch of gameplay videos from GTA 6. The FBI ultimately caught him, but once some stuff gets on the internet, it’s hard to take it down. This is what happened to the source code of GTA 5. This means fans now have unrestricted access to everything that Rockstar Games has held secure for the last ten years.

This new leak has revealed a ton of sensitive information about what Rockstar Games, spanning from projects they developed to those they canceled. The big thing here is that this source code leak also means that a bunch of developers who work as modders have a better understanding of GTA 5’s workings. But what could this leak mean for GTA 6?

GTA 6 launch could be in jeopardy

For those unaware, the source code being leaked means someone can now completely reverse-engineer GTA 5. A curious developer could go through every nook and cranny of this open-world game. This would mean great things for the game, both in a positive and negative manner. For GTA Online, hacking could make things worse. PC gamers are already dealing with people who have millions in their GTA Online accounts bothering them day and night; things are expected to take a turn for the worse.

A person has already created the GTA 6 trailer using the GTA 5 source code. If you see the trailer in the tweet, it’s clear that the person has tried to remake the GTA 6 trailer. There are only a few differences like the characters’ faces and the end that says GTA V. They skipped on all the visual mods, though; if they had done that, this game would look very close to Rockstar Games’ upcoming spectacle. When fans get unlimited access to their favorite titles, they do insane things.

Just look at Fallout London, Miami, and Skyblivion. One brought London and Miami to Fallout 4, while the other brought the complete Oblivion game to Skyrim. No doubt, fans can take references from previously launched Vice City titles and design their own GTA 6 using this source code.

It’s too early to say anything, though. Fans would have to just wait for the modding community’s response on this matter. But it is definitely possible, though.

The biggest hurdles for this mod, if someone ever decides to work on it, would be Rockstar Games and Take Two. They have been stopping people from modding GTA 5 for a while now. They even made this a whole thing by sending a bunch of modders cease and desist orders.

However unlikely, if they allow this to happen, no doubt fans will get to experience an unofficial version of GTA 6 way before the real thing comes out in 2025. After all, a lot of things can happen in two years.
