All three games set their own standard for visual fidelity at their initial launch. Arkham Asylum looked good on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. And it surely played a part in the fact that it is one of the highest rated superhero games till date, second only to its successor. Arkham City, which launched on all those platforms, looked much better than most games on those consoles. Finally, Arkham Knight, which overall didn’t do as well as the previous two games, was still a generation-defining game for eighth-generation consoles.

Arkham Asylum, when compared to the original Xbox 360/PS3 version, has much better textures. It runs at 1080p when docked and 720p when undocked. Performance-wise, it is supposed to be locked at 30 fps, but it’s not as stable as it should be. There is some inconsistency in this one.

Arkham City, on the other hand, yields very similar results visually: improved textures, almost native undocked, and 1080p docked. But it runs way better than Arkham Asylum on the Nintendo Switch. This is a surprising thing given the fact that this game is much better than Asylum visually.

Meanwhile, Arkham Knight on the Nintendo Switch is something that should not have existed. The game took a serious hit, quality-wise. Its textures are degraded, and its resolution does not seem very ideal. Most importantly, it performs worse than The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch.

While that covers the trilogy, it would be cruel to leave out the game that chronologically kicked off the Arkham series.

Why was Arkham Origins excluded from this trilogy?

The biggest question that might be lingering in the minds of the fans is why they excluded Arkham Origins from this collection. The game directly set up Arkham Asylum. At the end of the game, you capture Joker and Arkham Asylum begins with you (Batman) driving Joker in the Batmobile to Arkham Asylum.

The game got a mixed reception at launch. The biggest reasons were its dodgy map design and the performance issues that followed. This was unfortunate, considering the the game had a solid story and a very talented cast attached to it, along with very relevant gameplay upgrades.

Maybe mediocre reviews and sales and a lukewarm fan reaction made WB skip this game? They did not even include this game in the Return to Arkham collection that launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in 2016. The game was not so bad and told the origin story of the Arkham series. It just needs some small changes. They need to consider bringing it back someday.
