Steam digital storefront recently broke its own all-time high record of peak concurrent players. The PC-only platform saw 33,675,229 active users in a single day, thus surpassing a previously set milestone from March 2023. It shows the rising popularity of PC gaming and Rockstar Games‘ team should take notice of this phenomenon ahead of the release of GTA 6 in 2025.
Also, GTA V‘s stupendous run on Steam has proved that the open-world franchise is a hit among PC gamers. Still, Rockstar’s team hasn’t broken its strange tradition of prioritizing consoles over other platforms. However, the new surge in Steam’s reach and craze among players across the globe might make the devs to rethink on their decision.

Since its inception, the Steam digital store has only witnessed a rise each year. After the 2020 pandemic, the interest of gamers has grown exponentially, especially on PC, thanks to the availability of endless titles on Steam. While next-gen consoles have struggled in different aspects like production and lack of exclusives, that’s not the case with Steam. There’s always something new coming out for PC owners.

The introduction of Demos for upcoming releases has also escalated the user interest for Steam. Still, the exact reason for its peak player count skyrocketing to almost 33.7 million at the start of 2024 hasn’t been confirmed. But the figures have proved one thing for sure. PC gaming is booming and has no limits when it comes to reaching new players.
Now speaking of GTA 6 and the possibilities regarding its PC launch, it seems like Rockstar Games is making a huge mistake. The studio has already confirmed that the initial focus will be to have the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X\S. Although it’s not a completely wrong approach, keeping the PC fans of Grand Theft Auto away from a game they are highly passionate about might be a bad strategy after all.

GTA 6 not releasing early on PC or simultaneously with PS5 and Xbox Series X\S will surely prevent Rockstar Games from making a record-breaking profit too. Especially, if one has to consider the unreal numbers Steam is pulling in right now when it comes to engaging millions of users for hours. Not to mention there are many of them who also make purchases on a daily basis.
Even today, not many gamers have enough money to afford modern gaming machines like PS5 and Xbox Series X\S. Hence, those looking forward to playing GTA 6 are only hoping it arrives on PC because that’s the only way for them to enjoy it. But Rockstar Games’ stance has remained different since the last decade in terms of distributing its titles first on consoles and then on PCs – after a year or even longer than that.
