Gaming fans all over the world are in awe of the GTA 6 trailer right now, and why not? It has seemingly exceeded their expectations in terms of revealing a promising experience upon the game’s release. The open world looks stunning with all the glitz and real-life references. But there’s one more thing that makes the trailer so compelling: the soundtrack by Tom Petty. By now, everyone must be aware of the song ‘Love Is A Long Road’ by the popular musician.

The GTA 6 trailer has already crossed 100 million views on YouTube. And now, it seems like it’s also boosting the song’s reach across the globe. That’s what a recent report has revealed while showing insane numbers from online music streaming service Spotify. It seems like the trailer’s growing influence on social media has pushed ‘Love Is A Long Road’ to a different level.

The song from the late 80s was originally recorded by the late Tom Petty in 1987 and then released a year later. It was part of his solo debut album ‘Full Moon Fever’ from 1989. Following its launch, the song eventually succeeded in peaking at number 7 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart.

According to the new report from a reliable media outlet, streams for ‘Love Is A Long Road’ on Spotify have increased by a whopping 36,979 percent since the reveal of the GTA 6 trailer on December 5, 2023. Compared to last week, these numbers for this track are unreal, to say the least, after a long time.

Spotify provided the aforementioned figure to the BBC’s news website. Speaking more of the singer behind the trending song, who died in 2017, he was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame more than two decades ago. Apart from ‘Love Is A Long Road’, he’s also known for tracks like ‘American Girl’ and ‘Don’t Do Me Like That’.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Petty’s main social media account (run by his estate) mentioned that the song’s inclusion in the GTA 6 trailer was very special. “Tom loved contributing Runnin’ Down A Dream to GTA: San Andreas, so it is an honour to have Love Is A Long Road featured in trailer one for GTA VI,” read the post.

Who’s composing the GTA 6 soundtrack?

2013’s GTA V is the only game in the iconic franchise to use an original soundtrack so far. But it looks like GTA 6 will follow the same route to create a distinction for itself compared to classic installments. For the uninitiated, The Alchemist, Oh No, and Tangerine Dream in collaboration with Woody Jackson composed the music for its predecessor.

But fans can surely expect an array of groovy tracks, similar to previous offerings, in the upcoming title.
